Competition Roundup: February Deadlines

How will you spend your summer? Whether you’re graduating, continuing school, or have some time off, summertime holds a world of opportunity for startup bootcamps, incubators, contests and study/work abroad opportunities. The deadlines are rolling in fast, so be sure to follow the Herb Kelleher Center Twitter for upcoming deadlines.

Here are our top 5 competitions with February deadlines:

  1. UT Energy Technology Open. Deadline: Feb. 3. The University of Texas at Austin invites Texas students, faculty and the startup community to share their ideas, win cash prizes, and meet investors and prospective customers across four categories: Oil & Gas, CleanTech, Energy and Water Efficiency, and Software.
  2. LES Business Plan Competition. Deadline: Feb. 1. Secure your spot in gaining a mentor, accessing valuable IP tools (IP ToolBox), and entering to win cash and in-kind prizes. Don’t wait until your business plan is complete! Just answer the contact information section and enter an abstract of your business plan.
  3. Rice Business Plan Competition. Deadline: Feb. 10. The Rice Business Plan Competition is the world’s richest and largest graduate-level student startup competition. It is hosted and organized by the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, which is Rice University’s internationally-recognized initiative devoted to the support of entrepreneurship, and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. This is the 17th year for the competition. In that time, it has grown from nine teams competing for $10,000 in prize money in 2001, to 42 teams from around the world competing for more than $1.5 million in cash and prizes.

4. UGA’s Top Next Entrepreneur. Deadline: Feb. 15. UGA’s Next Top Entrepreneur is open to student startup teams from all over the country. During this live event, teams pitch their existing business plans or business idea in front of a live audience and a panel of judges. At the end of the competition, one winning team is awarded $10,000!

5. e-Fest Business Plan Competition. Deadline: Feb. 17. E-Fest®, sponsored by the Richard M. Schulze School of Entrepreneurship and by EIX.org, a non-profit online platform for entrepreneurship education, will celebrate 25 student teams who submit the best business ideas in a preliminary competition.
